Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on
January 19 1946 in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was the daughter of Avie Lee
Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton is a housewife and Parton
is a tobacco farmer. She was appearing on Knoxville TV at 12 years old. When
she was 13, she was recording for an obscure label, and was singing at the
Grand Ole Opry. After graduating from high school in 1964, she relocated to
Nashville to begin her country singing career. She was in love with Carl Dean,
who ran an asphalt-paving business; they got married on May 30 1966 and have
remained together. Porter Wagoner hired her in 1967 to sing on his show The
Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She was on the show for 7 years, their duets went
viral and she was a part of his band at the Grand Ole Opry; she also sold and
toured records. The hit song "Joshua" was a chart-topper. the top
spot in 1970, was her biggest single. She made the decision to go solo while
she recorded duets with the singer. She left him for good to pursue her own
career in 1974. Dolly was a hugely loved musician and singer. Dolly has won
many Country Music Association awards (1968 1970, 1970 and 1971, 1975, and
1976). The petite (5'0") beauty was an easy fit for television. By the
mid-1970s, she was appearing regularly on TV specials, talk shows, and was even
having her own Dolly (1976). Dolly received her first Grammy award in 1977 for
Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Dolly's movie debut was in 9 to 5 (1980)
In the film, she received an Oscar nomination for writing the title tune. She
also received Grammy Awards 2, 3, Best Country Song, and Best Female Country
Vocal Performance for the track "Nine to Five." The fame continued to
grow with her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) as well
as Rhinestone (1984) which featured the track "Tennessee Homesick
Blues". She is the president of Dolly Parton Enterprises, a $100 million
media company, and in 1986, she established Dollywood the theme park in Pigeon
Forge, Tennessee, celebrating her Smoky-Mountain upbringing. She starred in the
television show Dolly (1987 television series) as herself. In 1988, she was
awarded another Grammy: Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals for
"Trio".
